Newsletter W/B September 18th
Dear Member,
Welcome to the last installment of the weekly Bramhall CC newsletter for the 2011 season. Although you will receive the occasional update throughout the off season, to keep you up to speed with details for the AGM, training etc, this edition covers the final round of matches.
Results
- The 1st XI ended on a high, with a maximum 25 points win at Heaton Mersey. Solid 50s from Matt Hughes and Matthew Jamieson contributed to a BCC total of 228-6 dec, and Mersey were then blown away by Nick Bell’s 7-59 as they were all out for 139 in quick time. The result means that Bramhall finished the season in 7th position.
- The 2nd XI salvaged pride, if not many too points, in a draw at home to Grappenhall. The visitors smashed over 300 in their declared total (for the 2nd consecutive week), but a proud a dogged resistance from the 2nds ensured that they only lost 9 wickets…much to Grappenhall’s frustration, even though BCC were some way off the total. The 2nd XI finished in ninth spot.
- The 3rd XI, having secured safety the week before, managed a spectacular collapse when batting second to Didsbury’s 228 all out and went from 40-0 to 62 all out to take 6 points. Whether the performance could be attributed to complacency or hangovers from Saturday’s party is still unknown! The result, which included 4-50 for D Tanner and Rory Patel’s first 3rd XI wicket (caught by his dad), meant that Bramhall ended in sixth position.
Dinner Dance
Ian Milligan advised that members must contact him this week to book their spot at the Bramhall CC Dinner Dance on October 8th. There are some spaces still available, and we welcome all members and especially member’s partners and junior members’ parents.
Please see the attached poster, and use Ian’s details on there to confirm your attendance for what is promised to be an excellent evening.
End of Season Winter Work Party
All members are politely requested to attend the club on the morning of October 1st in order to give a short amount of time to ensure the clubhouse and ground are readied for the winter. If all members simply give an hour or so of their time, all the vital jobs will be quickly completed, which means the club is in better shape at the start of 2012. Richard Cragg asks that all those who plan to attend please contact him directly so he can plan how best to get the work done. Richard’s email is: Richard1.Cragg@ntlworld.com
Saturday’s Party
Thanks to all those members who supported Saturday’s excellent end of season gathering at Church Lane. Special thanks go to those members who helped to organise, and/or assisted behind the bar on the night. The party was another great success, with the bar now looking empty for the winter and the club taking a substantial sum on the night.
Goodbye to Sean O’ Neill
Our resident (for the last 6 months) Australian cricketer Sean O’ Neill is leaving our shores this Friday, and many members are keen to have a chance to say goodbye and thank him for his superb contribution both on and off the pitch this season. Sean advises that he is likely to be located in the Jolly Sailor pub on Thursday evening from around 8 or 9pm, and several members have already confirmed that they will pop in for a drink.
That’s all the news for this week.
We look forward to seeing you at Church Lane on October 1st for the Winter Work Party (please contact Craggie) and again a week later for the Dinner Dance (get your tickets from Ian Milligan).
Enjoy your winter!
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B September 11th
Dear Member,
We’re now in the last week of the 2011 season, our 125th Anniversary season, but there are still nuggets of news to bring you…
Results
- The 1st XI were a little under-par in their home fixture against Bollington on Saturday. A lower order collapse left the Bramhall total short on 158 all out, and Bollington passed the total with 5 wickets and 7 overs remaining. Bramhall took 9 points to remain mid-table.
- The 2nd XI were outplayed by a strong Didsbury side, but still put up a strong fight. Once again, if catches had stuck, the home side might have struggled to post a decent total, but in the end accrued 270-3 after being 50 for 3. In reply, Bramhall fell just short of 200 and couldn’t quite last the 50 overs to sneak a draw. Ashley West was the standout performer with all 3 wickets in an excellent long spell, and also finished 37 not out.
- The weekend’s big club fixture was the 3rd XI’s relegation battle at home to Sale on Sunday. The 3s performed well and came through with a 7 wicket victory and 25 points to ensure their own safety in what has been a tough season. Sale wererestricted to 164, before BCC batted sensibly in gale-force winds to achieve their target with an over to spare. Congratulations go to the 3 guys who have led the 3rd XI this season, and all those members who have played for them.
Fixtures
- Saturday sees the 1st XI go to Heaton Mersey, who need 2 points to stay up, whilst the 2nd XI host Grappenhall.
- Sunday sees the 3rds host newly crowned league champions Didsbury.
End Of Season Party
This Saturday, from around 8pm (after the home match ends), sees the end of season party in the clubhouse. There will be a £5 entry fee, which covers the cost of a band playing fantastic live music, and there will be swanky cocktails on offer. This is open for all members and their family and friends and you are encouraged to dress to impress. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the hard work that the senior sides have put in this year to remain in their respective divisions, and you are positively encouraged to drink as much of the stockroom as possible!
Club of the Month
We’re delighted to announced that the world famous Cricketer magazine have voted Bramhall CC as “Club of the Month” for October. The publication has been particularly impressed with the efforts of members to stage a memorable 125th Anniversary Season – with Ground Force, the Cricket Week and the 5K run donation noted. The award really is dedicated to all active members, but particularly those who give their own free time to ensure the clubhouse and ground are in great condition, that the standard of cricket played by our members is high and those who have helped build the club up from the farmer’s field over a decade ago.
The magazine hits the shops from September 16th, we will receive a monthly prize and are likely to be entered into a draw to find the overall best club in 2011. Grab a copy as a memento!
Dinner Dance
Time is really running out for you, your family, friends and colleagues to order your tickets for our fantastic dinner dance at The Deanwater on Saturday October 8th. It will be a great event to celebrate our Anniversary Season and our October Club of the Month award, and you are urged to act in the next few days. Please see the attached poster for additional details.
Committee Positions 2012
Please can all members who wish to nominate somebody for a 2012 committee position please complete the form on thenoticeboards inside AND outside the clubhouse this week, ahead of the AGM in the Autumn (more details to follow.)
125th Anniversary Clothing
For any members who have not yet claimed their clothing orders from Pete Babbage, please contact him directly. There are also a good number of excellent special edition ties available to purchase. Please contact Pete or see him at Church Lane this weekend….. they could be sold out by the time we get to the Dinner Dance.
Preparing the Ground for the Winter
To ensure that the ground and equipment are in tip-top condition for the start of next season, Richard Cragg requires as many members as possible to help “put the ground to bed” shortly after next weekend. Dates to be confirmed, but please keep your eyes peeled for a Saturday or Sunday date in the next 2/3 weeks. We’ll need our members to give an hour or so of their time to help put things safely away.
That’s all your news for now. We’ll bring you the news from the final weekend next week.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B September 4th
Dear Member,
Welcome to this week’s Bramhall CC newsletter, as we enter the season’s penultimate week.
Results
- The 1st XI got the better of local rivals Cheadle Hulme on Saturday with a one-sided draw. Nick Cantello and Sean O’ Neill both made quality hundreds and put on a 200 stand as Bramhall amassed 251-3 in their 50 overs. Cheadle Hulme never really looked keen to chase and ended on a miserable 155-6.
- The 2nd XI all but secured 2012 Premier Division status with a 25 point win against Oulton Park. Chris Heppell grabbed a deserved 5-fer as O.P. were all out for 140, before unbeaten 50s from Mark Isherwood and Ben Harris meant Bramhall romped home by 8 wickets.
- In Sunday’s vital 3rd XI game, Bramhall scooped an excellent 25 points at relegation rivals Sale. After bowling out Sale for 159, BCC passed the total 7 wickets down – aided by a 2nd fifty of the weekend from Mark Isherwood, and some fantastic away support. It leaves Bramhall level with Heaton Mersey and 1 point ahead of Sale with a game in hand.
- The 4th XI lost to Bollington by 2 wickets in a close game, after Bramhall had posted 155.
Fixtures
- The 1st XI host Bollington this Saturday, whilst the 2nds travel to title contenders Didsbury
- The weekend’s big match is the 3rd XI’s home game to Sale (again) where a strong result would all but ensure safety. All members are heartily encouraged to support the team on Sunday, and help to make the difference.

End of Season Social Evening
After the last Saturday league game finishes on September 17th, the club will be hosting a party for all members to come and enjoy in the clubhouse from 8pm. For just £5, you will be treated to a great live band and there will be cocktails aplenty and an opportunity to reduce the amount of drinks in the stockroom ahead of the winter. Gentlemen and ladies are advised to “dress to impress” on what should be a very enjoyable evening, if the recent live music night was anything to go by.
That’s your lot from Church Lane this week. Don’t forget to get your Dinner Dance tickets reserved and we look forward to seeing you at your Ground this Sunday to support your 3rd team.

Dear Member,
Welcome to this week’s (slightly later) edition of the Bramhall CC Newsletter.
Results
- If you hadn’t already heard on the grapevine, the First XI picked up a very important 25 points with a comprehensive win against top of the table Marple. In a rain reduced game, BCC bowled Marple out for just 99 before winning by 7 wickets. It leaves the 1sts all but safe.
- The 2nds had a tough time at league leaders Neston, where a rain affected game led to BCC posting 114 before Neston knocked them off. Although Bramhall only took 5 points from the fixture, they are currently 37 points above the relegation zone.
- The 3rd XI lost to Tattenhall in a game which finished in the dark in an 82 over game, Bramhall 162 for 5 declared in 38 overs and Tattenhall won with 2 balls to go in 44th over. Both teams deserve credit for trying to make a game of it in difficult conditions. Sam Drury 67, 13 yr old George Francis 36 and Grant Stendall 4 for 28. With 3 games to go Bramhall are one of 4 teams fighting to avoid 2nd relegation spot.
- The 4ths lost by 2 wickets at Woodley, picking up 14 points and 13 yr old Alfie Earith top scoring with 38.
The Fixtures
- Please note that all weekend matches are now 12.30 starts
- The 1st XI pop along to Grove Park to face Cheadle Hulme in a local derby this Saturday.
- The 2nds can secure safety with a strong performance against bottom placed Oulton Park at Church Lane
- 3rds face Sale away and Current standings with 2 teams to go down & 18 matches to be played by each are:
Heaton Mersey – played 16 178pts; Nantwich – played 16 176pts; Sale – played 15 168pts; Bramhall – played 15 163 pts; Tattenhall – played 17 154pts
- The 4ths are due to have a home fixture, also on Sunday.

End of Season Party in the Clubhouse, 17th September
Further details will follow, but please keep your diary free on Saturday September 17th when an end of season party will take place in the clubhouse, hopefully celebrating a successful season for our teams with no relegation.
Winter 5 aside Football
Over the past few off-seasons, a group of older junior members and younger senior members have regularly got together on a Saturday morning to have an informal inter-club 5 aside match at Powerleague in Stockport. It’s a good way of staying fit and keeping in touch with team mates away from the cricket season, so please speak to Simon Wilkinson or Andy Reynolds if you are likely to be able to spare an hour or two on regular Saturday mornings from the Autumn onwards.
That’s all this week’s news. We look forward to welcoming you to Church Lane this weekend, and our sides need your most vocal support (especially the 2nds on Sat and the 3rds on Sun) as we begin to wrap up the 2011 season.
Kind Regards,
BCC.

Dear Member,
Welcome to this week’s Bramhall CC newsletter.
Results
The 1st XI lost a tight game at Irby on Saturday. After posting 167-8 in their 50 overs, Bramhall bowled and fielded well – but not quite enough to prevent the home side winning by 2 wickets with 4 balls remaining. A 10 point haul and poor results for teams around them leaves BCC seventh in the table.
The 2nd XI picked up an excellent winning draw at home to high-flying Hyde. After setting Hyde a target of 205, Bramhall came close to taking the win as Hyde finished on 190-7. Tom Isherwood took the MoM award for his 103, ably supported by skipper Chris Heppell’s 55*. The 2nds are now 33 points above the drop zone in 9th position.
The 3rd XI grabbed the best result of the weekend when they took a full 25 points at home to fellow strugglers Nantwich. A wicket in the last over saw Bramhall nick the points and make their intentions to stay up clear to the other sides.
The 4th XI were in action away to Bollington 3rds and came up short in losing by 8 wickets, despite 71 from Andy Wood.
The Veterans lost by 81 runs at Alderley Edge last Wednesday
The only junior result of the week comes from the 4-way U11s tournament that saw Bramhall face Romiley this week. BCC won by 20 runs, helped by 30s from Dan Woodside and Ellie Mason. Each of the 4 teams has now won 1 game as we enter the final weekend and compliments from both the participants and those sampling Chris Ashton’s BBQ are flying around.
Fixtures
The 1st XI host Sale at Church Lane this Saturday. With the visitors trying to reclaim a promotion position and BCC at full strength, this should be a great contest.
Saturday also sees the 2nds head to Chester to take on mid table Boughton Hall, in a fixture that will require another strong performance to pick up substantial points.
The 3rd XI welcome Toft to Church Lane on Sunday. This will be a tough game for our 3s – with all support welcome – as Toft are pushing for the title this year.
The 4ths travel to Alderley Edge to take on their 3rd XI.
As mentioned, the U11s reach the conclusion of their tournament this Sunday with a game against Woodford.
Thanks
The Club wants to say a huge thanks to those members (and non-members) who worked hard to organise and put on a very successful private party in the clubhouse on Saturday. Record takings behind the bar, an excellent BBQ and a live band made for a great night for the partygoers.
Don’t forget that the club makes an excellent venue for your small to medium sized parties and celebrations.

Newsletter W/B July 31st
Dear Member
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Along with up to date results and fixtures, we also have a couple of important items that are of particular interest to both senior & junior members.
Results
The 1st XI picked up a useful 16 points in a hard fought draw at home to Cheadle on Saturday. After posting a solid 235-6 in 50 overs, BCC had Cheadle struggling at 115-6 before the visitors came close in finishing on 227-7.
The 2nd XI achieved an excellent 25 point victory at Cheadle. They, too, posted 235 before bowling the hosts out for 180 with a few overs remaining. This gives Bramhall 35 points breathing space above the drop zone, where it looks like being 1 from 3 to join Widnes in next year’s 1st division
The 3rd XI lost by an agonising 2 runs at 3rd place Didsbury, which still leaves Dave Shoesmith’s side with lots of hard work to do to remain in the top tier.
The 4ths performed creditably in a losing draw against Alderley Edge, with the highlight being 75* from Erica Sanders in only her second senior game.
The Veterans were comfortably beaten by Marple at Church Lane last Wednesday.
The only Junior fixture saw Bramhall lose to Stockport Georgians on Sunday morning in an exciting tie as part of a 4 team tournament with Woodford and Romiley.
Fixtures
Bramhall’s Veterans travel to Alderley on Wednesday evening.
Saturday’s fixtures sees the 1st XI trek over to Irby in an important fixture, whilst the 2nd XI host high-flying Hyde.
Sunday sees Nantwich 3rds visiting Church Lane whilst our 4ths play Bollington 3rds.
The U11s tournament also continues on Sunday morning.
Membership Survey
Junior Chairman Norman Woodside has already contacted junior members and their parents/guardians with the below “questionnaire.” He would like senior members to have their say on it as well…
“Fellow BCC senior members,
The ‘questionnaire’ below has been distributed to the juniors and parents to canvass opinions/ thoughts etc. As part of this process we need to gain the valuable ‘hindsight factor’ from yourselves on what you would do/ have done differently with respect to your junior careers. Would you compete for trophies or do we need to split the squads to gain equal play for all in league games? There are a few questions below, please take some time to respond, your thoughts are critically important.”
…………………………………………………………………………………
To all parents of Junior section players
You will have noticed that we have been committed to the coaching and development of the players this year, this was/ remains our primary aim. Part of this includes the match experience and where possible match experience in increasingly competitive games. We have achieved the latter for some teams because successful development of skills and ability has led to success on the pitch which has in turn led to tense games whilst pushing for county and High peak league titles in the latter stages of the season.
However, we are also aware that this has not been available to every player, teams when picked to challenge for titles tend to be picked on merit and this is a subjective issue- I would suggest it always will be.
So, what is important for BCC is to canvass the thoughts and opinions of the players and parents from this season so that we can learn and develop our approach in time for next season; we wish to review all aspects of junior cricket at BCC.
Therefore could you please take time to let me know your thoughts on the junior cricket at BCC and where possible suggestions/ recommendations, your suggestions and recommendations are particularly important. I have drafted some prompts below for you to add comments, this is not an definitive list, please add additional as you see fit.
Responses to me ONLY would be appreciated, I will treat them confidentially.
The result of this will be generic outcomes/ recommendations for the main BCC committee to consider, I will not be referencing any individuals at all, there is no need to do this. This is your chance to let me/ us know what you think, your responses in whatever form will be much appreciated.
1) The quality and availability of squad coaching sessions
2) Selection of teams and inclusivity
3) How important is a strong competitive side, should the club be looking to challenge for league title success, this may have an impact on item 2 above
4) Any benefits from player assessment and feedback written and verbal – there is an opportunity to do this periodically through the season during coaching sessions, we are looking at key skills development outcomes for each age group i.e. what skill they need to have at each age.
5) Club facilities
I will also be circulating this to the full club membership under a separate cover to canvass their thoughts and experience to capture the ‘hindsight’ factor. I will look to collate this information separately but review all the responses to get a complete picture.
Thanks in anticipation for your support and response
Rgds
Norman Woodside
Junior Chairman”
Junior Coaching Nights
Please note that ALL junior training and coaching sessions are now being consolidated into one night a week – Friday.
This will continue through the summer with the exception of Friday August 19th when the club is booked for a private function.
U9’s, Steve Pigeon is away for another 3 weeks so parental assistance is essential, I am aware that we have some parents interested in doing the coaching courses so please take this as an early opportunity to give it a go- from my own experience it is great fun and not difficult. We will also have some assistance from our older talented juniors (U15’s)
U11’s & 13’s – Sean will look to head up this group, the type of session will depend on numbers.
U15 & 18- This will invariably be a net session but we would be grateful if you could also help with the younger age groups if necessary
The bar should be open and of course the weather will be fine because we are in the school holidays so we look forward to seeing you all down there.
Thanks for the excellent support shown to our sides over the weekend, and we look forward to receiving it again this week.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B July 24th
Newsletter W/B July 17th
Dear Member,
Welcome to a soggy edition of the Bramhall CC newsletter, where we’ll dodge the showers and bring you up to date with matters.
Results
The 1st XI had a fantastic result on Saturday at Christleton when they managed to pick up 23 points in a tense 7 run victory. Despite driving through torrential showers to reach Chester, the weather gods smiled on the entire game and Nick Cantello’s patient 50 in an otherwise unspectacular 164 all out was followed up with a stunning 8-68 from Simon Wilkinson. The game finished with just 6 balls to go and as other matches in the division failed to finish, the result leaves Bramhall in 6th position.
The 2nd XI picked up a useful 14 points in a winning draw at home to Macclesfield that sees them sneak out of the Premier Division’s bottom two places. Despite some rain (causing Cheadle Hulme’s match 1/2 mile away to be called off), the home side did enough to steal a march on other teams around them.
Unfortunately, Sunday’s abysmal weather saw both the 3rd XI (at Heaton Mersey) and 4th XI(home to Bredbury) matches to be cancelled.
The U13s were denied a chance of winning the league in an abandoned game at Bowdon on Sunday.
Both Sunday results for the U15s at Marple and U11s home to Pott Shrigley have yet to be confirmed, along with Monday night’s U13 High Peak League match home to Prestbury.
Fixtures
Its an exciting week for some of our sides, as they compete for silverware…
Wednesday sees the U11s’ semi-final for the Cheshire County League Cup at Neston, and victory there will lead to an away final this weekend at either Alderley Edge or Romiley. Best of luck to the entire team.
Wednesday also sees a more senior Bramhall side – the Veterans – travel to Poynton.
Saturday has the 1st XI at Bowdon, whilst the 2nd XI host Nantwich.
Sunday is another busy day with the 2nds due to host Hyde in the 2nd XI Cup, whilst the 3rds travel to Grappenhall and the 4ths are due to face Cheadle.
Sunday is also the day when the U13s can pick up the League title, should they win at Church Lane against Neston.
The U15s are due to play at Runcorn and the U11s go to Macclesfield.
So, two big cup fixtures at Church Lane – and potentially one at Alderley or Romiley – at which our teams will appreciate all the support they can get.
Please do your best to pop down and help us be victorious.
Junior News
Not content with playing well for their own Bramhall age group sides, a selection of our junior stars have been turning out for matches at higher levels:
Erica Sanders plays for Cheshire Ladies U15s and U17s and has also played Bramhall adult cricket where she impressed her more senior team-mates.
Ed Francis has broken a record in scoring 134 not out for Cheshire U11s against Lancashire, becoming the first Cheshire U11s centurion.
Ellie Mason has represented Cheshire Ladies U13s and U15s.
Matt Hughes of Cheshire and Derbyshire’s Academy has recently been selected for the North of England side and will represent them in a National Festival July 25-29th.
Chris Sanders has played for Derbyshire U12s.
This is just a small selection of our talented crop of junior cricketers, and we have many more who are also playing representative age group cricket and turning our for senior Bramhall sides.
It seems that the concerted effort we are putting into coaching and our facilities is playing off on both an individual and a team basis amongst our juniors, and we can expect many of them to figure heavily in the senior sides as we strive for trophies in the next few years.
So, we wish our trophy chasing sides the best of luck in the next few days and expect to see you showing your support.
Kind Regards,
BCC.

Dear Member,
After a fantastic Cricket Week, kindly supported and assisted by many of you, it’s back to normal and a chance for the ground (and Head of Grounds) to take a well-earned breather.
You will already have seen the Chairman’s message yesterday, in which he detailed last week’s activities. The only addition to that is the excellent news that the club’s members helped to raise £3500 for Christie’s as a result of Friday’s Celebrity-Charity Match. BCC President Peter Babbage and his entire family wanted to specifically thank everybody for making Friday’s match a success and for contributing so generously to a cause that is very close to their hearts.
And so, on to the usual format…
Results
The 1st XI lost a tight game to Widnes at Church Lane in Saturday’s sunshine by 13 runs. 9 points seemed an unfair return for a match in which the side seemed to did little wrong.
The 2nd XI got a winning draw at Widnes to pick up 14 points, but find themselves in the wrong half of the table as we enter the 2nd half of the season.
The 3rds lost at home to Marple by a wide 95 run margin.
The 4ths went to Macclesfield and suffered a 10 wicket defeat.
Junior results include two late U11s results from the previous week:
On Tuesday 28th June, The U11s travelled to previously unbeaten Romiley. Despite being 2 players short – and therefore forfeiting 2 overs – Bramhall won by 19 runs. Then, on Friday 1st July, The U11s hosted Stockport Georgians and maintained their unbeaten league record with a 28 run victory. This meant the side qualified for the Semi-Finals with a game to spare and must surely be favourites for the league trophy now.
Back to this week, and unfortunately the U11s’ unbeaten County league run ended at Woodford on Sunday morning with a narrow defeat on account of losing 1 more wicket than Woodford, despite scoring more runs. The Semi-Final for the league is likely to be at Neston within the next week and the club wishes the side the very best of luck.
The U11s High Peak side won at Norbury last Tuesday and at Mellor on Sunday. 7 year old emergency debutant Jamie Foster-Grime gets a mention for his performance at Mellor where he remained unbeaten at the crease and bowled 2 overs for 7 runs.
The U13s hosted Cheadle on Sunday and won by 21 runs.
The U15s’ long trip to Upton on Sunday was badly rewarded with a large loss, despite Erica Sanders picking up 3-36 for BCC.
Don’t forget that match reports and scorecards for most of the above games can be found online.
Fixtures
Wednesday sees the Macclesfield Over 40s visit Church Lane.
Saturday has the 1sts travelling to Christleton whilst the 2nds host Macclesfield in what are often very competitive fixtures.
Sunday has the 3rds at Heaton Mersey, whilst the 4ths host Bredbury.
Sunday also sees the U11s host Pott Shrigley, the U13s travel to Bowdon and the U15s go to Marple.
Next Monday sees Prestbury visit Church Lane to face our U13s.
Senior Training
With some mixed results in senior cricket during the last couple of weeks, there is no excuse for every squad member not to be turning up to 1 senior training session each week. They are held each Monday and Thursday nights from 5.30pm and Australian Sean O’ Neill keeps the format varied to work on all skills of the game and maintain interest throughout the session. Some training will be on both the hard nets and the grass on the same night, so it’s always a good idea to bring trainers and spikes.
As schools and universities finish for the summer, there are likely to be greater numbers available to net – which should make for even more complete sessions. And there is no doubt that our performance levels will improve if we train more often and more intensely.
That’s everything for this week. We hope you have a chance to catch up after last week’s festivities before seeing you at Church Lane over the weekend.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B July 3rd
Dear Member,
Welcome to this week’s edition of the Bramhall Cricket Club Newsletter, an exciting week in which we’re celebrating our 125th Anniversary with a fantastic cricket week.
We’ll start with this week’s…
Results
The 1st XI drew their match against Heaton Mersey on Saturday, at a warm Church Lane. After a solid batting performance after being asked to bat first, Bramhall just ran out of overs and couldn’t eek out the last Mersey wicket – though picked up a good 17 points in the process.
BCC 228-5dec (Cantello 105*), HMCC 201-9 (Wilkinson 6-75).
The 2nd XI had a tough game at Grappenhall, and decided to bat to 55 overs to force a victory. The tactic almost worked, but Grappenhall came through with 3 balls remaining and 2 wickets in hand to chase BCC’s 188-9. Bramhall took 6 points away with them.
The 3rd XI also faced Grappenhall this week, but this time it was the Quarter Final of the 20/20 Cup. Despite a good performance to reach 140 in 20 overs, Grappenhall surpassed the total just 2 down in 18 overs to end Bramhall’s good cup run.
The only other confirmed result of the week was the Veterans going down by 48 runs at Bollington last Wednesday.
Easily the most important and most competitive game of the season so far was played in glorious sunshine on Sunday to kick off the Bramhall CC Cricket Week. The Past XI versus Present XI pitted a mixture of former players and current players who are “past” it against a youthful looking Present XI.
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces travelling from near and far to get together and enjoy a great match on a resplendent ground, and the finish to the match certainly didn’t disappoint.
After the Past XI rattled up 248 from their 35 overs on a perfect batting wicket, bets were evenly placed on who was going to come good in the second half. The Past XI’s innings was held together by the timeless Snehal Lapsia (in his first innings since 2001′s Lord’s final) and more recent departee Jack Marshall, who both made fifties.
A ponderous second wicket stand between Joe Higginbotham-Jones and Tim Wood (both got fifties) threatened to derail Chris Heppell’s young men, but the rest of the batting order just about kept tabs on the required rate – despite the outstanding efforts of Terry Daniels in the field and with ball in hand. When it came to the final over, to be bowled by a breathless Peter Lawson, both Ben Milligan and David Shoesmith Jnr looked favourites, but Lawson held his nerve until 1 was needed off the last ball. The field came in, the ball was straight, and the shot from Milligan was straighter as it cannoned back into Peter’s leg. As the batsmen desperately tried to scamper through for the winning run, Lawson hobbled over to the ball and threw down the stumps to tie a brilliant game.
It was the perfect end to a perfect match and thanks go to all those who helped to make it happen, participated in and came down to support.
Fixtures
Excluding the remaining Cricket Week Fixtures (see section below), the following games take place this week:
Tuesday – The U11s visit Hazel Grove to play Norbury.
Saturday – The 1sts host Widnes whilst the 2nds travel to Widnes in the 1st matches of the second half of the season.
Sunday – The 3rds are at Marple whilst the 4ths host Macclesfield
Sunday also sees the U11s at Woodford and the U13s home to Cheadle. There is also another U11s game pencilled in at Mellor whilst the U15s have a long trip to Upton.
A preliminary date for your diary is the next round of the 2nd XI Cup competition when Bramhall will host a good Hyde side on Sunday 17th July.
Cricket Week
With 4 more fixtures to take place this week, including the prestigious MCC fixture on Thursday and the exciting celebrity-charity Twenty20 on Friday, there are still a lot of things that members can do to help things run smoothly.
Aside from the areas specific to Friday’s game that were mentioned in a separate email earlier, please see the following:
Ball Sponsors are still required for around half this week’s games. A £30 charge covers a new ball and helps the club to put on the fixture. Thanks to those who have already sponsored.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s matches still need assistance from members to help with BBQ and Bar functions. Tuesday and Thursday need afternoon help with the bar, and each evening needs help with the BBQ as well as behind the bar. This will entail cooking food (provided) helping to serve drinks and also collect glasses & bottles. Just a couple of hours of your time will make a huge difference.
Please contact Ian Milligan immediately on 07946 110953 to offer your services.
That’s all for this week’s newsletter. We expect to see every member down at Church Lane for at least one of this week’s matches to help us celebrate Cricket Week.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B June 26th
Dear Member,
Welcome to this week’s newsletter, and we bring you results and fixture information in the week before our massive 125th Anniversary Cricket Week begins.
Results
The Firsts had the worse of a drawn in a rain reduced fixture at Bollington on Saturday, finishing on 118-6 after the hosts reached 171-4.
The Seconds were soundly beaten by a strong Didsbury side at Church Lane, losing by 8 wickets after posting 159-7.
However, on Sunday, the 2nd XI won a remarkable game at Warrington by just 1 run. After struggling to an under par 135 all out in 42 overs, BCC might have feared the worst. But with excellent bowling contributions and some electric fielding, they created so much pressure that Warrington lost 2 wickets in the final over – including a run out off the last ball. A beaming Chris Heppell said he was very proud of his side’s 2nd half performance and hopes it is a catalyst for some league success.
The 3rd XI played at Tattenhall on Sunday, and lost by 4 wickets after being bowled out for 127.
The 4th XI hosted Prestbury’s 3rd XI and lost by 131 runs after Prestbury raced to 247-7 in their 45 overs.
The Vets lost by 2 runs at homt to Bredbury last Wednesday when they couldn’t surpass the visitors’ 79 runs.
Junior results saw the U15s win by 4 wickets at Alderley Edge on Sunday when they chased down Alderley’s 130 successfully.
The U13s beat Stockport Georgians by 53 runs on Sunday at Church Lane. 4 batsmen remained not out as BCC posted 182-1. The U13s have also won again at home this evening, beating Macclesfield by 6 wickets after restricting them to 87-8.
The U11s completed a superb week for Bramhall’s juniors when they beat Prestbury last Friday by 35 runs net.
Fixtures
The Vets go to Bollington this Wednesday evening and will be hoping the ground has dried from Saturday’s saturated conditions.
Friday sees the U11s travel to Stockport Georgians.
Saturday has the 1st XI hosting Heaton Mersey in a game they’ll expect to take big points from, whilst the 2nds travel to Grappenhall.
Sunday has the first 125th Cricket Week match in the afternoon at Church Lane (see below) but earlier in the day sees the U13s go to Toft and the U9s welcome Macclesfield.
125th Anniversary Fixtures
If you missed the special 125th Anniversary email sent to members last week, detailing next week’s events and how you can both celebrate and assist the club, then please email us here for another copy or see our Play-Cricket (now) and Bramhallcc.com (very soon) websites for further details.
However, here are a rundown of the special fixtures and those players invited to take part will be contacted following this Tuesday’s Selection Meeting.
Cricket Week
Sun, July 3 BCC Past and Present XIs, 12.30pm start
Mon, July 4 BCC u13s v Cheshire u12s, 2020, 6pm start
Tues, July 5 BCC u23s v Cheshire Development XI, 1pm start

Thurs, July 7 BCC XI v MCC XI, 11.30am start

We’re sure you’ll agree that the week provides a great selection of matches – where the standard of cricket will be high and the level of enjoyment even greater. It’s imperative that, even if you’re not directly involved in a match as a player or a helper, that you make an effort to come to the clubhouse on at least a couple of occasions to support your club and take in a very special celebration with your fellow members.
We look forward to seeing you at Church Lane in the coming days.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Bramhall CC 125th 2011 Anniversary Year
Dear Members,
We are fast approaching the major cricket celebrations of our 125th anniversary and I would like to update you on the events planned for the Cricket Week starting July 3rd.
Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the Cricket Force initiative in April, whether that was running 5K in Bramhall Park, donating sponsorship or labouring at the club. The improved club facilities including the new Pergola area were a direct result of the 100+ members who got involved, which is a 150% increase on previous years. The run raised £2,100, with a donation being made to Bramhall Park, £350 to Sumner CC a Christchurch based club affected by the earthquake and the rest to support the new BCC facilities.
Since then we have had the double act of John Stanworth from Lancs and Terry Daniels opening the new net facilities followed by an enjoyable golf day at Styal. Meanwhile, the cricket season is in full flow and all our teams have plenty to play for.
Cricket Week
Sun, July 3rd BCC Past and Present X1s, 12.30pm start
Mon, July 4th BCC u13s v Cheshire u12s, 2020, 6pm start
Tues, July 5th BCC u23s v Cheshire Development X1, 1pm start
Wed, July 6th BCC u14s v Cheshire Representative X1, 6pm start
Thurs, July 7th BCC X1 v MCC X1, 11.30am start
Fri, July 8th Celebrity 2020 game in support of Christies, 4.30pm start
A broad cross section of the club will be involved in these high profile games but some additional matches are being arranged for later in the season (eg. Junior Trios, u16s, over 40s), so no one will miss out. No doubt players past and present, families and friends will attend the specific matches they are involved in but I would encourage everyone to come and watch some of the other matches as there will be great cricket on show and it’s a chance to mix with other club members and guests. The final Christies game will be an exciting evening with ex international cricketers playing alongside ex Premiership and international footballers and the occasional Soap Star for good measure. We may not have the floodlights but it will be all action at Church Lane that night with barbecues, bars and entertainment in full flow.
So there is something for everyone in Cricket Week, whether you are a player or spectator. But as you can imagine and as we know from Cricket Force, these kind of events do not ‘just magically run themselves’. So, we would really appreciate some help and in no particular order:
Playing – while we will try and get most people involved, we will not be able to satisfy everyone and so please take this in good spirit.
Umpires and Scorers – we will use a combination of BCC club and league officials but if anyone has any particular requests, let me know.
Catering – Sun (for spectators), Mon, Wed and Fri we will be in barbie mode, Sun (players), Tues, Thurs will be more formal cricket teas so welcome volunteers for wearing chefs hat, catering, providing refreshments plus loan of extra barbecues, gazebos, freezers, fridges, big ice containers.
Bar – welcome volunteers to help on the main bar and also a second bar that we will be running on the Fri night. Also anyone who can help Iain Tittle on supplies transport.
Car Park Management – Nick Daber will lead this but he will need some helpers on the Fri night. Anyone have bright bibs?
Cleaning – we will be using our normal cleaners but with the ground in constant use across the wicket, extra help in and outside the pavilion would be great and obviously saves the club money.
Ground – Craggie will obviously lead the ground team but support in this area whether it be grass cutting / half time wicket prep by senior members or covers / ropes by juniors would be great.
Security
First Aid – for the Friday evening with high numbers at the club
Publicity – distributing Christie game posters locally including Bramhall village shops.
Sponsorship – the Christies game has been kindly sponsored by MCR courtesy of Phil Duffy but if anyone individually or through their company would like to sponsor the individual games and / or match balls they would be most welcome.
Weather – can anyone fix this!
Volunteers re the above and Sponsorship Support – the key to making the cricket week run smoothly and without it becoming a burden on a few people is for a large number of people to do a bit. So, if you can flip burgers, serve behind the bar, direct cars for an hour or indulge players and guests with your catering, it will make for what I am sure will be an enjoyable week. In the first instance, please contact myself directly to let me know what and on which day you can help or if you want to ask any questions ianmilligan62@tiscali.co.uk 07946 110953
That just leaves me to remind you that the finale to our 125th season will be our end of year dinner dance, being held this year at The Deanwater Hotel on 8th October. So please make a note in your diaries and we will forward final details of the event re guest speaker, band, etc shortly.
On behalf of Bramhall CC, we look forward to welcoming you over the Cricket Week and appreciate the anticipated offers of support.
Many Thanks
Ian Milligan

Dear Member,
It’s been generally a positive few days of results for the club, and please find further details below…
Results
The 1sts won an important game against Cheadle Hulme at Church Lane on Saturday. After restricting the visitors to 159 all out in the 55th over, Bramhall won by 3 wickets to take 20 points – helped by a crucial unbeaten 8th wicket stand of 56 between Andy Robertson and Nick Bell.
The 2nds drew in a low scoring game at Oulton Park taking 10 points in a match reduced to 90 overs by rain. BCC had Oulton 8 wickets down and still 35 runs short of the first innings 150 all out.
The 3rds were part of a very tight draw on Sunday when they hosted Grappenhall. In response to Grappenhall’s 210-8dec off 43 overs, BCC needed 7 from 2 balls with 2 wickets remaining. They lost their 9th wicket next ball and blocked the last to finish a tense game.
The 4ths picked up a good win at Prestbury, bowling their hosts out for 130 after setting a stiff target of 188 in their own innings.
Sunday also saw the 1st XI travel to Marple in an amazing Cheshire Cup tie. Marple’s Aussie – who had threatened a big score in the league fixture the week previously – smashed 200 as Marple reached 350-1 in their 45 overs. Bramhall reached a creditable 220 in response, with our own Aussie Sean O’ Neill hitting a good hundred of his own… his third of the season.
This defeat followed on from a poor performance at home to Bowdon in the 20/20 tie last Thursday. Bramhall posted a poor 87-7 and Bowdon knocked them off quickly for the loss of 4 wickets to leave the 1st XI to concentrate on the League for the rest of the season.
Junior results on Sunday saw the U13s cruise past Cheadle Hulme by 9 wickets at Grove Park.
The U15s unfortunately went down by just 4 runs at home to Timperley.
On Monday evening, the U11s were involved in a dramatic tie at Trinity where they hosted Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge. The U13s also hosted Alderley Edge in the Cup Semi-Final, but the result has not yet been confirmed…. the last message received was that Bramhall were finding it tough going whilst batting first, but that rain and gloomy conditions were starting to set in.
For further details and scorecards from the above matches, please see our Play-Cricket website.
Fixtures
Wednesday has the Vets hosting Bredbury.
Friday sees the U11s due to host Prestbury.
Saturday has the 1sts popping over to Bollington whilst the 2nds host Didsbury.
Sunday sees the 3rds trekking west to Tattenhall and the 4ths host Prestbury.
Sunday also sees the U9s visit Heaton Mersey, the U11s welcome Stockport and the U15s visit Alderley Edge.
Monday has 2 away fixtures with the U11s at Romiley and the U15s at Poynton.
125th Anniversary Cricket Week
Final details for this action-packed cricket week are being confirmed as we speak, and a detailed itinerary of fixtures – plus how members can help make it a huge success – will be sent to all members in the next few days.
What we can tell you, however, is that a variety of matches are planned each day/evening from Sunday 3rd July through to Friday 8th July. This is a chance to show off the club to visitors and neighbours, and to thank current and former members for their efforts.
Please keep your eyes peeled!
That’s all for now, and we hope to see you at Church Lane during the next week as we all try to avoid the showers and grab some more victories.
Kind Regards,
BCC.

Dear Member,
A mixed week of weather and results for you, and some exciting fixtures to come…
Results
The 1st XI drew an incredibly tight and exciting game at Marple on Saturday, being 1 run short of Marple’s 214-5 with 1 wicket left when the home side managed to bowl a dot off the last ball of the game. Bramhall took 10 points, but were tantalisingly close to a lot more.
The 2nd XI lost to Neston at Church Lane. They posted a creditable 186-8, but Neston won by 4 wickets.
Unfortunately, both the 3rd and 4th XI matches were victims of Sunday’s prolonged rain.
Last Wednesday’s Veterans game at Marple saw BCC lose heavily.
The U15s lost to Elworth on Sunday morning in pretty miserable conditions at Church Lane.
The U11s continued their excellent unbeaten league run with rousing victories over Marple on Friday and at Poynton on Monday. They really are the team to beat at the moment.
The U9s lost to a strong Romiley side on Sunday morning.
Fixtures
Wednesday had Alderley Edge at Church Lane as the Veterans’ opposition.
Thursday sees the U11s travel to Bollington.
Thursday also sees a hotly anticipated 1st XI 20/20 fixture against Bowdon at Church Lane. Bowdon’s lineup could include 1 current and 1 recent Lancashire CCC player, so your support is required to help Bramhall progress to the next round. (This fixture will obviously affect the usual Senior Training session).
Saturday sees the 1st XI host local rivals Cheadle Hulme, whilst the 2nd XI travel down to Oulton Park.
Sunday has the 3rds at Church Lane against Grappenhall, the 4ths go to Prestbury whilst the 1st XI have a 3rd match in 4 days when they travel to Marple again – this time in the Cup.
Sunday also sees the U15s host Timperley, the U13s go down the road to Cheadle Hulme and the U9s welcome Alderley Edge.
Monday sees the U13s host Macclesfield and the U11s host Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge.
Tuesday sees the U15s travel to Macclesfield.
A wealth of interesting fixtures for the club over the next week. Good luck if you’re playing in any of them, and enjoy them if you watch any.
Hope to see you at Church Lane.
Kind Regards,
BCC.

Dear Member,
Not a huge amount of new to bring you this week from Church Lane, other than match results from the last few days and forthcoming fixtures.
Results
The 1st XI had a two game weekend, and played Poynton at home on Saturday and Urmston away in the Cup on Sunday. Poynton were the victors by 4 wickets in the league fixture, chasing down BCC’s under-par 195 all out with overs to spare. On Sunday, however, Bramhall overcame their Premiership hosts where a good all-round team performance saw them win by 4 wickets after bowling out Urmston for 163 in the 45th over.
The 2nd XI suffered a similar fate to the Firsts, going down by 5 wickets at Toft on Saturday having posted 182-9 in their 50 overs.
The 3rd XI gained Bramhall’s only senior league success of the weekend with a nail-biting 1 wicket win at Nantwich to take 20 points. After excelling in the field to bowl their hosts out for 123, BCC squeezed to victory with last man Sam Baker seeing his team over the line in partnership with Joe Higginbotham-Jones.
A young 4th XI featuring 5 U13 players were unable to repeat their previous week’s heroics, going down by 7 wickets at a strong Hyde. It was pleasing that all of the youngsters came out of the game with credit from the game.
The Over 40s “Veterans” side played at Church Lane last Wednesday and lost by 60 runs to Poynton, despite some maximums by Tittle and Barratt.
In Junior cricket, Bramhall sides have won all but one of their games since the last newsletter. The U11s beat Wilmslow in the League on Friday by 14 runs and Woodford in a Sunday friendly by just 5 runs on Saturday. The U13s maintained their excellent 100% record, cruising to victory over Stockport at Church Lane on Sunday. The U15s lost by 8 runs at home to Cheadle Hulme on Friday before beating Stockport away by 30 runs on Sunday.
All above matches have their results and some detailed scorecards online now at www.bramhall,play-cricket.com for you to browse through.
Fixtures
Tuesday sees the U13s at Macclesfield.
Wednesday has the Veterans at Marple – the first of 2 big matches there this week.
Friday see the U11s host Marple.
Saturday has the 2nds at home to Neston and the Firsts travel to Marple. – Both of these game are expected to be tough and high quality affairs and both sides will benefit from your support at both Church Lane and Marple CC during the afternoon.
Sunday sees the 3rds travelling to Toft and the 4ths host Woodley, in the day’s senior games.
Junior fixtures on Sunday have the U9s travelling to Romiley, the U11s go to Bollington and an U14 side travels to Toft in a Cup fixture.
Next Monday features the U11s at Poynton.
Junior Cricket Coaching Week
Bramhall’s Aussie Sean O’Neill is teaming up with Cheshire player and coach Matt Dawson (ex Bramhall) to offer a summer cricket coaching week during the school holidays. Participants can attend all 5 days during the week, or pick and choose individual days.
Posters are already up around the clubhouse with full information, or please see Sean at your next training session with him.
That concludes this week’s newsletter, and we look forward to seeing you at Church Lane during the next week (as well as Marple on Saturday!) in a playing and spectating capacity.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B May 15th
Dear Member,
After a somewhat sodden last few days, we are still able to bring you a roundup of the latest news from Church Lane.
Results
The 1st XI played excellent cricket in their 2 games over the weekend, and were just 1 wicket away from winning both. Saturday saw a dominating performance at Cheadle, where a rain reduced Cheadle innings of 27 overs – chasing BCC’s 231-8 declared – didn’t quite leave enough balls for Bramhall to get all 10 wickets. Cheadle finished 66-9 as BCC took 17 points in an all-round team performance. Sunday was an even wetter affair at Sale in the Cup, where a 45 overs per side match was reduced to 32 each after the game had commenced. Sale racked up an impressive 207-6, but a quality hundred from Andy Robertson helped Bramhall across the line with 1 ball remaining.
Match reports are at Bramhallcc.com, and Saturday’s scorecard is on our Play-Cricket site already.
The 2nd XI rattled up 259-6 against Cheadle at Church Lane. A much improved batting performance compared tot he previous week was helped by a century from recently un-retired Steve Burnage. Cheadle’s innings was rain reduced to 35 overs and they didn’t feel like chasing, so finished at 82-3.
The 3rds could only manage 5 overs in the clouds at Hyde on Sunday before rain caused the game to be abandoned. Hyde had amazingly been 1-3 before they “recovered” to 20-3 before the rain claimed the result.
The Vets lost a low-scoring game at home to Bollington last Wednesday by 8 wickets.
Junior results have seen the U11s at home to Bredbury last Friday abandoned due to rain, but came up 29 runs short against Stockport Georgians’ 84-6 on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, the U13s won by a comfortable 71 runs at home to Disley with 4 players retiring with 30s not out in their total of 168 from 24 overs.
Fixtures
Tuesday evening sees the U18s at Bollington, whilst Friday has the U9s at home to Stockport Georgians and the U11s pop down the road to Cheadle Hulme.
The 1st XI host Irby this Saturday, whilst the 2nds will hope to dodge the elements at Hyde.
Sunday has the 3rds hosting Didsbury and the 4ths travel to Bredbury.
According to Play-Cricket’s current fixture list, an action packed Sunday for the juniors has the U9s at Marple, the U11s at home to Romiley, the U12s host Stretton and the U13s Cheadle Hulme.
Bespoke 125th Clothing Range
A late flurry of orders has seen Pete Babbage extend the deadline for orders by a few days. Items gaining the most amount of interest with members include the traditional wool cricket jumpers, tie & scarf in 4 BCC colours and the harlequin rugby top. Go to the “125th” page at www.bramhallcc.com for full details, prices and how to place your order with Pete. There is a clothing information pack located at the BCC bar, and you can reply to this email if you require last week’s email containing product design images re-sending to you. But you really need to hurry to get your order in on time.
Christie’s Thanks
The club members who took part in fundraising for Christie’s as part of the Great Manchester Run would like to pass their thanks to those of you who have kindly donated to this excellent cause. The run went well for all, and can still donate by seeing Pete Babbage, or going to Andy Reynolds’ online fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/ARManchester10k2011 In total, Pete reckons the BCC related runners will have raised around £1500. Keep your eyes peeled for another Christie related event during July’s 125th Anniversary Cricket Week.
That’s every bit of BCC news we can throw at you so far this week, so we hope to see you at Church Lane in the coming days.
Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B May 8th
Welcome to the BCC newsletter for this week.
Results
A bit of a mixed weekend for the senior teams…
The 1st XI played really well to get a 16 point draw against Bowdon in a tight game. Sean O’Neill got his second century of the week (it took more than 45 balls this time!) and Nick Bell got 5 wickets including Lancashire’s Mark Chilton who was a late inclusion to the visitor’s lineup.
Bramhall 221-4 dec, Bowdon 217-7.
The 2nd XI had a day they’d rather forget. A long trip to Nantwich with a few regulars missing was compounded with a first inning capitulation from 50-1 to 67 all out. Nantwich won by 9 wickets.
The 3rd XI played their first league game on Sunday at home to Heaton Mersey with a very young and fresh looking side taking the field. A good team effort saw Bramhall post 212 and were unable to get the last 3 Mersey wickets as they finished on 153-7.
The Under 15s lost away to Prestbury on Sunday by 4 wickets in a low scoring game.
The U11s had 2 High Peak matches during the weekend. On Friday BCC lost to a strong Romiley team: Bramhall scoring a net 245 and Romiley scoring a net 296. And on Sunday they played away at Trinity with BCC batting first and scoring a net 255. A good bowling and fielding display restricted Trinity to a net 230 to secure victory.
Our Play Cricket and main websites already carry some of the scorecards and match reports from the above fixtures.
Fixtures
Saturday sees the 1st XI away at Cheadle and the 2nd XI home to Cheadle as well.
Sunday has the 1sts away to Sale in the Cup, the 3rd XI at Hyde and the 4ths host Bollington.
The Veterans are due to host Bollington Vets this Wednesday.
Junior fixtures see the Under 15s at Bollington on Sunday, the U13s host Disley whilst the Under 11s have a Cheshire league fixture home to Bredbury on Friday and host Stockport Georgians on Sunday in the High peak League.
Code of Conduct
We’re now 3 weeks into the season and all members are respectfully reminded that they are bound to abide by the club’s Code of Conduct which outlines the standards that are expected of a Bramhall CC member – both on and off the pitch. Copies of the Code of Conduct can be found in the clubhouse.
BCC Film Night
Several members are interested in attending a screening of the new cricket film “Fire In Babylon” this week. The Cineworld Cinema at Parrs Wood in Didsbury is showing it at 8.45pm on Thursday and the idea is to attend senior training before popping to Didsbury to catch the movie and maybe something to eat as well. If there are enough takers (you can respond to this email), tickets might be purchased in advance. If not, people will meet shortly before 8.30pm outside the main doors and then buy tickets at the box office.
Previews on TV show the film to be an exciting look back at the fearsome West Indies side of the late 70s, and it is a good opportunity for members to get together on a night out.
Last Chance for Golf!
We’re reaching the time where James Day has to confirm numbers back to Styal Golf Club for the BCC Golf Day on the afternoon of Friday May 27th.
Please contact James via james.day@tcs.com or 07817 721712 to put your name down asap to join the others who have already confirmed.
Champions League Night
If you’re a Man Utd fan, a Barcelona fan (even just for the night) or simply want to catch the big match action on Saturday 28th May, then the Church lane clubhouse is the place to be. The League is expected to announce that fixtures will start a little earlier on the day, and Bramhall will be showing the match live on a projected big screen with a theme to the evening.
If you’re not at Wembley, make sure you’re at the club to watch it and keep your eyes peeled for further details about the night as we draw closer.
Manchester 10k Run for Christie’s
Member Andy Reynolds has asked to say thanks to those who have already sponsored him for this Sunday’s 10k Run through Manchester to raise money for the Christie. For those that haven’t got round to it quite yet, you can do so online at www.justgiving.com/ARManchester10k2011 or pledge a donation when you see him at the club.
That’s all for this week’s newsletter.
See you at the club in the next few days.
Regards,
BCC.
Newsletter W/B May 1st
Dear Member,
Welcome to this edition of the BCC Newsletter.
Results from the weekend’s senior fixtures are as follows:
- The 1st XI took 16 points from a winning draw at home to Christleton. Bramhall racked up 222-5 before being unable to get the visitors’ last two wickets when they closed at 173-8. It was an improved team performance from the first week and notable individual performances included first club 50s for Andy Robertson and Sean O’ Neill, and Simon Wilkinson picked up 4 wickets in a miserly spell of bowling.
- The 2nd XI were unable to capitalise on their first match win, taking 11 points in a losing draw at Macclesfield. Chasing 239, they reached 207 and lost their 9th wicket to the last ball of the game. There were no standout performances with bat and ball, but quite a few promising signs for the rest of the season.
- The 3rd XI won their 20/20 fixture at Macclesfield on Sunday by just 5 runs. Batting first, Bramhall reached 144-5 with contributions of 75 from Iain Tittle and 40 from James Williams. Although only 3 wickets down, Macclesfield could only get to 139 – due in part to a very economical 4 overs from Tom Drury.
At time of writing, these are the only results that have been received by email or posted onto the Play Cricket site. For your own team’s results to feature in future editions, please ensure your captain or team manager emails the information here and ensures the result is online at Play Cricket.
Just to remind you, www.bramhall.play-cricket.com is our official ECB website and will feature detailed scorecards from BCC matches plus some news and match reports.www.bramhallcc.com is our own in-house website and will contain all club news and match reports.
Fixtures for the next week include:
The 1st XI play Brooklands in a 20/20 this Thursday at 6pm at Church Lane. (This will probably mean that senior training will operate to a minimum in the hard nets, if at all).
The 1sts then host Bowdon on Saturday at home at 1pm.
The 2nd XI make the trip to Nantwich on Saturday.
The 3rd XI host Heaton Mersey on Sunday in what is usually a tough encounter.
The 4th XI travel to Cheadle, also on Sunday.
The Veterans play at Bredbury St Marks this Wednesday.
Junior fixtures see the U9s versus Prestbury, U11s against Bredbury and U13s take on Poynton on Sunday – all at home, according to the Play-Cricket fixtures database.
Charity Fundraising
Member Andy Reynolds is again running in the Great Manchester 10km Run on Sunday 15th May, and is raising money for Christie’s. The Christie has a close tie-in with Bramhall as it treated President Peter Babbage 2 years ago and will be involved in the 125th Cricket Week later in the summer.
Andy kindly asks members to consider donating any amount to the charity, and this can be done through his sponsorship website: http://www.justgiving.com/armanchester10k2011
or in person when you see him at the club.
Monkhouse Kit
A few members and parents of members have been inquiring as to the whereabouts of clothing ordered through Monkhouses. A box with orders inside is still in the clubhouse, presently in the tea room. A Monkhouse representative advised over the weekend that more clothing from Gunn and Moore has arrived with them late last week and embroidery is under way. Please note, that you will need to contact Monkhouse directly for specific details of any orders that you have placed. Bramhall CC merely facilitated the webshop and selected the items to be made available on it. Go to www.monkhouse.com for their contacts details, and Mike Hewitt has been overseeing BCC orders there.
Don’t forget to get your orders in for your bespoke 125th anniversary kit via Peter Babbage. Please see the 125th page of our website for further details:

Themed Social Events
As part of a drive to encourage a stronger social scene at the club, some ideas for themed days or evenings have been discussed for this season. Ideas mooted include a Ladies’ Day, a Mexican Evening and a Cider Evening. Keep your eyes peeled for further information on these events, and feel free to suggest any of your own ideas that you feel would be well-attended and popular with our members and guests.
And, finally, please don’t forget that this newsletter goes out to the vast majority of the BCC membership. If you have any cricket or club related news that you would like the readers to see, don’t hesitate to email it to us.
We hope to see you at the club for Thursday evening’s match.
Kind Regards,
BCC.
