Bramhall CC Weekly Newsletter

Dear Member,

Welcome to a miserable start to the 2012 league season!

Results

Last week’s and the weekend’s downpours led to various games across the county being cancelled, including a host of fixtures in the vicinity of Bramhall.

The 2nd XI at home to Alderley Edge on Saturday and 3rd XI cup fixture at home to Macclesfield on Sunday were both victims of the weather before play could begin.

This left the 1st XI in their Saturday fixture at Sale, and it couldn’t have started worse for Bramhall. Having been put into bat, the visitors found themselves 0-2 at the end of the first over. The dressing room door continued to swing as 5 more cheap dismissals left Bramhall at a precarious 18-7, but skipper Nick Cantello found measured support from tailenders Nick Bell, Tom Duffy and Luke Littlewood as the innings ended at 108-9 from 50 overs with Cantello contributing a vital 69*.

Bramhall bowled well and, had this been supported by safer hands, the 5 wicket defeat might have been a different result. Bramhall took 2 points from the game, on a day when only 1 other game in Division One went ahead.

Fixtures

This week sees us keep one eye on the skies, whilst the U13s due to play at Romiley on Thursday.

Saturday sees the 1st XI host Christleton and the 2nds at Macclesfield.

Sunday has Hyde 1st XI visiting Church Lane in the Cup, whilst the 3rds play at Woodley in the Jack Gardner Trophy.

Dear Member,

To all those who ordered their Bramhall CC kit before the first
deadline in March and didn’t choose postal delivery, Monkhouse have
advised that your newly-embroidered kit will be available to collect
from their representatives at the junior registration evening, Church
Lane, at 6pm tomorrow, Friday 13th.

If you’re not able to attend yourself, and want kit ahead of any
weekend games, you might want to request a team-mate to collect your
kit… or pop in to Monkhouse in Cheadle Hulme on Saturday. The kit
will not be left in the clubhouse un-attended.

For those members that haven’t yet ordered kit, Monkhouse will be
ready to take your orders in person and will also have samples
available to look over.

SPONSORED RUN / WALK AT BRAMHALL PARK SAT APRIL 14 AT 8.45AM

As most of you will know, we decided to postpone this years run by one
week, given the easter weekend clash. We want to repeat some of the
success of last year but this time our runners will be joining in the
weekly 5K run that sees 300 – 400 people run at Bramhall Park every
Saturday morning in what is a real community event. We will be raising
club funds to support much needed new grounds equipment to allow
Craggie and his team to continue the fine work that they do. But we
will also be allocating 30% of funds raised to support the efforts of
two club members, Andy Reynolds and Rupert Kitzinger. They are both
doing marathons in April with Andy running Manchester raising money
for Christies Cancer Research and Rupert running London with Andy
Flower for The Lord’s Taverners which supports youth cricket. They
will each get 15% of what we raise.

All runners need to be at the start line this Saturday by 8.45 prompt
as the run sets off at 9am sharp. You also need to register at
www.parkrun.org.uk/bramhall/home by 6pm April 13, if you want your
time recorded(only takes 2 mins). Walkers are also welcome and can
stroll the 2.5K circuit from 9.50am. Please can everyone who plans to
join in let Ian Milligan know in advance at
ianmilligan62@tiscali.co.uk

We look forward to seeing many of you join in and feel free to wear
something Bramhall CC related, although pads are not recommended! And
walkers, dogs and spectators all very welcome. If you are away this
weekend but still want to participate, why not run Sat Apr 21.

More details can be found on the enclosed sponsorship form.

Bramhall CC 2012 Pre Season Newsletter and additional forms‏

Early April 2012

Dear Member

WELCOME TO BRAMHALL CC’S 2012 SEASON

I hope that you are well and are looking forward to the new season. While the 125th anniversary year  will be a tough act to follow, the club is in good shape and targeting progress on and off the field over the coming months. That starts with a busy few weeks, where we need EVERYONES help to get ready for the start of the season.

WINTER DEVELOPMENTS

  • October saw the 125th year rounded off with 150 people celebrating at The Deanwater Hotel, entertained by guest speaker Lucy Pearson, Cheadle Hulme Head and England Ladies
  • November saw a lively AGM, with Ian Milligan (Chair) and Andy Reynolds (Secretary) taking up new roles
  • February saw an enjoyable quiz night at the club
  • Further investment has been made in grounds equipment
  • The kitchen and committee room have been redecorated, thanks to Nick Daber
  • New picket fencing will be erected this week in front of the clubhouse
  • Congratulations to Wyn Harris who has been promoted onto the Premiership League Umpires list
  • Another 10 players and parents have attended their Level 1 or 2 coaching courses and Bramhall continues to be the most heavily subscribed club in the county
  • Indoor nets have again been well attended with 100 players working with our external level 3 coaches Atiq Uz-Zaman and Matt Dawson, supported by our own internal coaches
  • The league have introduced a new points system for senior cricket, designed to encourage more positive cricket by creating a greater points reward for wins versus losses and draws
  • The 2nd X1 cup competition has moved to 2020
  • Sean O’Neill is progressing his accountancy career in Australia, Andy Heyes has returned to his home club Marple and Andy Robertson has joined Worcester. But we are delighted to welcome 20 yr old Aussie Travis Dean who plays for Footscray Edgewater in the Victoria Premiership and has represented Australia at u15s, u17s and u19s level. Travis will be very involved in our coaching programme. Rupert Kitzinger, an experienced Dorset Minor Counties player from premiership club Toft strengthens the bowling and also our coaching strength as he is currently doing his Level 4 course and is Head Coach of the Flintoff Academy. Luke Smith, captain of Bristol University makes the step up from Buxton in the Derbyshire & Cheshire league and we are delighted that Derbyshire Academy player Matt Hughes will be available across the whole league season
  • The 1st team have also returned to the National Cup, scene of our Lord’s victory in 2001
  • The club has been honoured with it’s first full Cheshire Minor Counties fixture on Church Lane and first as a club since the 70’s when Cheshire play Herefordshire on May 20th

We want to start the season with a real drive for all club members to get involved a couple of important events.

NAT WEST CRICKET FORCE WORKING PARTY WEEKENDS

As we all know, cricket grounds do not magically just become ‘ready’ on the first day of a new season. Richard Cragg and his team put in an extraordinary effort and we all need to do our bit to help them. Over the two easter weekends, thank you to the 45 people who committed a couple of hours to a couple of days; including some new members which is great to see. However, that means another 150 members have not participated and there is still plenty of work still to do, to be ready for the new season. Hence, we would really appreciate you still offering a couple of hours work on the ground and / or getting involved in the sponsored run this coming weekend. Richard can be contacted on 01625 576092 if you want to arrange a grounds slot but he will be at the ground each day this week. Please do not leave it to someone else.

Across the season Craggie can always used extra help and particularly over April / May when his no 2 Luke Littlewood will doing uni exams. If you would like to help, which can involve sitting on a roller listening to your ipod, Richard will be glad to hear from you.

The club appreciates the commitment that has gone into winter coaching courses over the last 2 years, along with the time that our junior managers, coaches and helpers will be volunteering this summer.

Junior Registration evening takes place this Friday, April 13 at the club. This will be an opportunity to meet Travis who arrives on the 11th, hear about the 2012 season plans and order any Bramhall CC clothing with Monkhouses in attendance. The bar will be open.

There will also be two holiday courses for juniors hosted on the ground. The first, a 3 day course June 5 to 7 and the second a 5 day course July 30 to Aug 3. SOCIAL

Hopefully, all members share the natural optimism of the start of a new season. But with the continued progress Bramhall CC is making, there is every reason to believe that if we pull together, we will continue that progress on and off the field.

Bramhall CC Club Clothing – 1st Order Deadline now approaching‏

Dear Member,

We’re resending the recent BCC Clothing Order Information email to all members, for the benefit of those who have not yet placed an order. Please note that the 1st order deadline, to make sure you have kit for the start of the season season, is this coming Friday March 30th.

All details remain the same, and can be found below. However, if you wish to place an order for a traditional cable-knit BCC sweater, please contact Pete Babbage directly on 07906 540240. He will be looking to place an order once approx 6 members have confirmed with him.

Kind Regards, BCC.

We’re pleased to be able to bring you confirmed details of the official 2012 Bramhall CC clubwear, available through Monkhouse Sports. Monkhouse are now based at the one site at their shop in Cheadle Hulme Shopping Precinct, which is easy for members to visit for all their cricket needs.

The playing clothing is predominantly from Gunn & Moore’s new range, and certain items are also available using the lower cost Monkhouse/Peak Sports own brand clothing. The training clothing is also mainly from Gunn & Moore, but there are also some additional training items available – such as the training top which was well received in 2011.

We have established a system of deadline dates with Monkhouse, whereby ordering before one of the set dates enables the clothing to be ready for you approximately a fortnight later.

The first deadline date is going to be March 30th. Any orders placed by this date with Monkhouse will be available by April 13th. This allows a week before the first senior league games – and gives a little bit of extra time in case of Easter Holiday delays.

The second deadline date will be on the day of the Junior Registration Evening, which will probably be the 2nd or 3rd Friday in April… more details to follow shortly – but Monkhouse will be at the Evening to show the clothing range that can be purchased and to take orders on site.

Ordering can be done in 3 ways:

1) Online at our exclusive Bramhall webshop at http://www.monkhouse.com/category/1021/CRICKET_CLUB_SHOPS

The website gives an option of collecting your order from the Cheadle Hulme shop once ready, or paying for delivery once ready. (However, we are looking at the possibility of you collecting your order in bulk on a senior training evening after 13th April, saving you a trip to the shop.)

2.) In store, at their Cheadle Hulme Precinct Store. Make sure you mention that you are a Bramhall CC member ordering the personalised Club clothing. A visit gives you the option of trying G&M clothing for size, and also looking at Monkhouse’s range of equipment.

3.)By phone from their Cheadle Hulme Precinct Store. Make sure you mention that you are a Bramhall CC member ordering the personalised Club clothing.

(Details of the phone number and address are at www.monkhouse.com)

In addition to the clothing through Monkhouse, members who prefer a traditional cable knit cricket jumper will be able to order via Peter Babbage. A minimum order of 6 is required, and some members have already registered their interest, so contact Peter directly or respond to this email and it will be forwarded to him.

To finish, there is an outline list below of the products available. Please direct any questions straight to Monkhouse using the contact information on their website. We are hoping to obtain some samples for members to look at during indoor nets, and also some leaflets to take away.

BCC Weekly Newsletter‏

Dear Member,

Welcome to the last installment of the weekly Bramhall CC newsletter for the 2011 season. Although you will receive the occasional update throughout the off season, to keep you up to speed with details for the AGM, training etc, this edition covers the final round of matches.

Results

- The 1st XI ended on a high, with a maximum 25 points win at Heaton Mersey. Solid 50s from Matt Hughes and Matthew Jamieson contributed to a BCC total of 228-6 dec, and Mersey were then blown away by Nick Bell’s 7-59 as they were all out for 139 in quick time. The result means that Bramhall finished the season in 7th position.

- The 2nd XI salvaged pride, if not many too points, in a draw at home to Grappenhall. The visitors smashed over 300 in their declared total (for the 2nd consecutive week), but a proud a dogged resistance from the 2nds ensured that they only lost 9 wickets…much to Grappenhall’s frustration, even though BCC were some way off the total. The 2nd XI finished in ninth spot.

- The 3rd XI, having secured safety the week before, managed a spectacular collapse when batting second to Didsbury’s 228 all out and went from 40-0 to 62 all out to take 6 points. Whether the performance could be attributed to complacency or hangovers from Saturday’s party is still unknown! The result, which included 4-50 for D Tanner and Rory Patel’s first 3rd XI wicket (caught by his dad), meant that Bramhall ended in sixth position.

Dinner Dance

Ian Milligan advised that members must contact him this week to book their spot at the Bramhall CC Dinner Dance on October 8th. There are some spaces still available, and we welcome all members and especially member’s partners and junior members’ parents.

Please see the attached poster, and use Ian’s details on there to confirm your attendance for what is promised to be an excellent evening.

End of Season Winter Work Party

All members are politely requested to attend the club on the morning of October 1st in order to give a short amount of time to ensure the clubhouse and ground are readied for the winter. If all members simply give an hour or so of their time, all the vital jobs will be quickly completed, which means the club is in better shape at the start of 2012. Richard Cragg asks that all those who plan to attend please contact him directly so he can plan how best to get the work done. Richard’s email is: Richard1.Cragg@ntlworld.com

Saturday’s Party

Thanks to all those members who supported Saturday’s excellent end of season gathering at Church Lane. Special thanks go to those members who helped to organise, and/or assisted behind the bar on the night. The party was another great success, with the bar now looking empty for the winter and the club taking a substantial sum on the night.

Goodbye to Sean O’ Neill

Our resident (for the last 6 months) Australian cricketer Sean O’ Neill is leaving our shores this Friday, and many members are keen to have a chance to say goodbye and thank him for his superb contribution both on and off the pitch this season. Sean advises that he is likely to be located in the Jolly Sailor pub on Thursday evening from around 8 or 9pm, and several members have already confirmed that they will pop in for a drink.

That’s all the news for this week.

We look forward to seeing you at Church Lane on October 1st for the Winter Work Party (please contact Craggie) and again a week later for the Dinner Dance (get your tickets from Ian Milligan).

Enjoy your winter!

Kind Regards,

BCC.

1st XI vs Heaton Mersey – 17/9/2011

The 1st XI rounded off their season in style with a thumping 25 point win on Saturday at a damp Heaton Mersey. Mersey asked BCC to bat first in an attempt to quickly get the 3 wickets required to guarantee their safety.

Their first wicket came promptly, but then Sean O’ Neill joined the composed Matt Hughes and the pair added 74, before the latter was caught for 45. A lengthy rain delay followed, reducing the match to 77 overs in total.

Upon resumption, Hughes started to open up and played some quality shots in passing 50 for the second consecutive week. His wicket was the fourth to fall at 128, out for 55, but Matthew Jamieson took the reins as he played another destructive innings.

Adding 62 with Andy Robertson and 38 with Jack Harris, Jamieson hit the ball to all parts before he was bowled for 78 from 61 balls and in sight of a first BCC century. Skipper Nick Cantello declared the innings immediately, and Bramhall had reached 228-6 from their 46.4 overs.

Although they had already ensured their safety, Heaton Mersey set off positively in their innings. However on a pitch that offered Nick Bell and Andy Robertson just enough assistance, they were soon in trouble. Bell, in particular was causing all sorts of problems and wickets fell regularly in between some attacking strokes. Mersey were soon on the rack at 103-9 and although they added 36 for the 10th wicket, Bell ended proceedings with 4 overs remaining. He ended with the excellent figures of 7-59, and Robertson played his part with 3-79… though was unlucky not to get 5 wickets for a few less runs.

It was an enjoyable end to a solid season and it’s hoped that the team will develop into a title challenging outfit in 2012.

Former BCC Players to Perform at Dinner Dance

Tom Bailey

Tom Bailey

Ex-Bramhall players, Tom and James Bailey, will be performing with their fellow band members at the Annual Dinner Dance at the Deanwater Hotel on Saturday 8th October. The brothers, with Tom on lead vocals, and James on keyboard form part of the Live-Cover band ‘Undercover’ – playing classic hits from across the decades at a wide range of celebrations, charity events and festivals. The dance is a black tie occasion for all club members, their families and friends (16 yrs old and over) and will be held from 6.45pm till late. It will be a great event to celebrate our 125th Anniversary Season and our October Club of the Month award, which is why we urge you to act in the next few days and book!
